Apple maggots and codling moths are common pests. Apple maggots leave rusty looking tunnels in the flesh of the fruit - codling moths leave a rotten center. For positive diagnosis take one or more of the affected fruits to your local cooperative extension office. Helpful folks there can diagnose the problem and suggest control remedies. Hope you have a better harvest this year!
