How do I remove fungas growth from soil? I returns every year under Hostas... and also in soil where a tree was removed several years ago. It is overwhelming during intense heat of summer. Thank you. |
Fungus, lichen and moss will develop on the soil surface if the soil is compacted, acidic, shady, nutrient poor and draining slowly. To permanently remove it, dig the soil and add organic matter along with some lime, then replant your perennials. The organic matter will loosen the soil and improve drainage and the lime will mellow the acidity of the soil. Mushrooms and fungus appearing near where you removed a tree are there because the old roots are decaying underground. You can knock down the growth and rake it out, or you can dig down and remove the decomposing roots. Either way, you can get a handle on the fungal growth. |
