Could you please tell me what I could use as ground cover in my rose garden? Are there any companion herbs to use as well?

Roses do not like other plants growing in close proximity--ground covers compete with the shrubs for water and nutrients. There are no herbs or ground covers recommended for roses. A good mulch to keep down weeds is recommended. Mulchs can be bark, grass clippings or hay, gravel or stone chips, newspaper, peat moss, pine needles, black plastic film, rotted manure, sawdust, wood chips or shavings or combinations of the above.
