Alberta Spruce Turning Brown - Knowledgebase Question

My alberta spruce tree is turning brown. It was fine in the Fall but now the needles are falling off and the tree looks dry and brown. What should I do? Help!!!

Water stress can cause the problem you describe. If spruces are not fully rooted, or if the soil is overly wet, they are less able to take up moisture and are more prone to drying out in sun or wind once the ground is frozen. Based on your description I suspect they are drying out due to root stress before the ground froze, combined with the stress of winter weather. It is possible the tree is dead or nearly so. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging.
