Annuals are plants that grow, flower, set seeds and die all within one growing season; perennials are plants that persist in the garden for 3 or more years. Roses are considered woody perennials because the leaves fall off in the winter months but the canes remain alive. In the spring new leaves grow from the old canes. Hope this answers your question!
