I have a lilac bush that I have had in the ground for about 4 years. It does very well until about mid-August at which time most of the leaves turn black and curl up. It looks terrible but comes back each year. What can I do about the black leaf curl?

Your lilac has symptoms of bacterial blight which overwinters on plant parts and can be triggered by wet weather during the spring months. A protective copper spray (applied according to label directions) should protect your lilac if sprayed in the spring. Repeat sprays are required. Be sure to rake up fallen leaves at the end of the season. Best wishes with your lilac!
