I have a mature mum, that has flowered a few times. The new flowers are appearing, but the old dead petals are still on the plant and are unsightly. What do I do with the old petals? Do I pull them off? Cut the old stems? Thanks!!!
|Every winter or early spring you should cut off the old stems. You can do it now so that all you see are the healthy new stems. Then, when the flowers are spent, cut them off. Typically a stem will develop more new flower buds. If yours do not, you can cut the old stems down to promote branching, or completely off and new ones should appear from the base of the plant. Enjoy!|
