I don't seem to be able to grow peppers successfully in Yuma, AZ. I want to grow from seed. Help, Bill |
Jalapenos are native to Mexico which is only a stone's throw across the border from you so you should be able to successfully grow them in your garden. Jalapenos prefer an alkaline soil (I'm guessing it's about 7.2 and if so, they should grow well). If you're not sure, you may want to have your soil tested. Aside from the alkaline soil, jalapenos need sunshine and ample water. They prefer warm soils so March or April are the times to plant them outdoors. You can start the seeds indoors in February if you want to get a jump start on the season. That way you will have good sized plants ready to go into the garden once the soil warms. Hope this helps! |
