I'm not sure you can order soil from another part of the U.S. so visiting the mid-west and trucking it back home might be your only option. Or, you can build up your caliche and clay over the years by adding organic matter such as compost, aged manure, shredded leaves, etc. Start by spreading 4-5 inches of organic matter over your planting bed and digging it in to a depth of 8-10 inches. After planting in the bed, spread another 2-3 inches of organic mulch over the bare soil. At the end of the gardening season dig the mulch into the soil and add a fresh layer of mulch. Repeating this on an annual basis will eventually give you good garden loam. Best wishes with your garden!
