| How do I avoid grass from growing in my vegetable beds? I've tried using mulch. I always use soil made for growing vegetables. Grass also grew in the plastic pots where I grew petunias last year. Help!!!! I'm tired of yanking it out. |
| A thick layer of mulch should suppress weeds in your garden. Perhaps the mulch you used was not thick enough? I use 6-7 layers of newspaper or even cardboard on the soil, covering it with straw to make walking in between the vegetable plants easier. The newspaper and cardboard are thick enough to keep weed seeds from sprouting and the straw keeps it from blowing away in the wind. Or, you might try covering the entire garden bed with weed barrier fabric and cutting holes for individual plants. The weed barrier will last several seasons but you'll have to use the same planting holes (for different vegetables) each year. Hope this helps! |
