|Weeds can sometimes be really difficult to control. The best approach is to pull the weeds, roots and all and then lay a weed barrier or a thick mulch over the bare soil to exclude light and keep new weeds from popping up. Once you've pulled the weeds there are pre-emergents that you can apply to keep new weeds from growing and you can use a pre emergent in conjunction with the weed barrier or mulch. There are also selective weed killers if you can identify the weed, or vegetation killers which will kill everything it comes in contact with. Those would be last resort chemicals because they would jeopardize the perennials. Hope this helps!
