Fertilizer is plant food. It supplies the major and minor nutrients to your plants. There are many brands available and some are encapsulated for time release; others are granules or available in liquid forms. The time release fertilizers last the entire growing season so only one application is required. Granular fertilizers break down more rapidly but will still feed plants for 6-8 weeks. Liquid fertilizers are used up almost immediately so reapplications can be made every 3-4 weeks during the growing season. Use one product andon't feed too often, or with more than as recommended on the package label or you will run the risk of overfeeding and burning your plant's roots.
