I have two Orange trees, both planted from 5 Gal containers 4 years ago. Both trees lose 90% of there leaves every February. Happened again this year. What am I doing wrong. |
Sounds like a water stress problem. Although evergreen, citrus trees do shed their oldest leaves but they are quickly replaced by new leaves so you barely notice the loss of leaves. However, if your tree is shedding most of its leaves all at once, there is a root stress involved. Either too much or too little water. Try adjusting your watering practices during the winter months. Flood irrigating your trees every week during the months of December, January and February. You can do this easily by making a basin beneath each tree, extending out about 12 inches and making it 4-5 inches deep. Fill the basin with water, allow to drain, then fill it a second time. Do this weekly. Watering in this way concentrates the moisture directly over the root mass and allows it to trickle down, wetting the entire root mass. Hope this helps! |
