Are watering devices such as Aqua Globes a good idea, or just a gimmick?

If you forget to check your houseplants on a regular basis, an automatic watering system can be helpful. Or, if you go on vacation, a ready source of water can keep your houseplants alive. The Aqua Globes are efficient in keeping potting soil moist. Or, you can simply fill a water bottle with fresh water and stick it into the soil of your houseplant. As the soil dries, the water will drain slowly from the bottle through a wicking action. I use 12-16 ounce water or soda bottles and stick their necks into the top 2 inches of potting soil. The water remains in the bottle until the soil begins to dry out, which draws the water out of the bottle, drop by drop. Hope this answers your question.
