What would you suggest as a fast-growing screening for privacy in an area of acid soil and evergreens? It needs to end up being about 12ft. high.

To provide year-round cover I'd choose a tall evergreen. Some types to look for in your area are tall forms of
arborvitae, 'Skyrocket' junipers and pyramidal yews. These all can be pruned to stay tall and thin and will grow in a cramped location. They should all be available locally.
