I live in Florida, have some brown spots on my St.
Augustine Lawn, I would like to resod some areas myself, what should I do
before I put down the new sod? When to use whole piece sod, when to use plug in?
Thank you
Jennie

Start by digging out the dead grass and roughing up the soil a bit. Spread some compost over the bare soil and dig it in, then level the area. You can patch by purchasing some new sod or by taking healthy sprigs or plugs from other areas of your yard. Just dig 3 square inch plugs with a hand trowel or sharp knife, taking roots and all. Fill in the holes with soil and the remaining grass will grow into the areas; plant your sod plugs in the bare areas that you prepared. Or, take sprigs by simply pulling out some of the existing lawn. Make sure you get roots and all. Sprigs can go 3-4 inches apart, plugs can be planted 6 inches apart. Best wishes with your lawn!
