Please recommend a vigorous flowering ground cover for an area that gets full sun. We would like it to grow thick enough to prevent weeds.

One of the most vigorous growing, spring flowering groundcovers for a sunny area is Ajuga (Carpet Bugle). You might also consider Carpobrotus (Ice Plant), Euonymus fortunei (Winter Creeper), Lysimachia nummularia, and Pink Panda (Fragaria). Gazania is a spectacular flowering plant, as is Hawkeye (Orange-flowered dandelion-looking plant). Be sure to prepare the soil by adding some organic matter, and keep your new plants watered this summer so they'll grow thick and lush.
