I recently moved and have 3 flowering crabapples in my new backyard. I am NOT familiar with this tree at all. Will they produce fruit (I really don't want them to), and if so, what type -- large or small apples? My experience with apple trees is that they're a mess to clean up. Also, can you tell me what zone I live in. Thank you!

If your crabapples flower, then fruit will probably follow. Crabapples are usually the size of a small to large marble; they can be a nuisance but they make the BEST jelly, and they are food for wildlife. Hopefully these attributes, plus the beautiful show of flowers in the spring, will win you their favor. They are nice trees in that they (unlike many apple cultivars) are relatively pest free and stay a nice size for a yard tree.

Rochester is in USDA zone 6.
