|Is it possible to grow citrus trees in the El Paso, TX climate? I am primarily interested in growing oranges and lemons. Does Burpee sell Citrus trees?
|The range of citrus trees is limited by their cold sensitivity. Generally, citrus is confined to South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Where temperatures stay consistently above 20 to 25F, some citrus will grow. According to my Zone map, your average low winter temperature is 10 to 15 F, making it too cold for citrus. You could, however, grow small citrus trees in containers, bringing them outdoors in the summer, and indoors into a sunny window for the cold months.
Burpee does not sell citrus trees; a good source is Four Winds Growers P.O. Box 3538 Fremont, CA 94539 510-656-2591.
