Some of the taller plants that grow well in Central Texas include:
Blue plumbago (Plumbago auriculata) with blue or white flowers, grows to 3 ft.
Cigar plant (Cuphea micropetala) Red/yellow flowers, 3-4 ft.
Hinckley's columbine (Aquilegia hinckleyana), yellow flowers, 18 in.
Pavonia (Pavonia lasiopetala) Pink flowers, 3-4 ft.
Louisiana iris (Iris fulva), many colors; 3 ft. tall.

Some shorter plants include BLUE SHADE (Ruellia "squarrosa"): lavender flowers; everblooming; 8 inches. And OXALIA (Oxalis crassipes): pink flowers, clover-like foliage; blooms in spring and summer; 8 to 10 inches tall.

Hope these suggestions work for you.
