I live at 3500 feet in zip 93551. Lots of California poppies around, but don't know how and when to plant the seeds to get the best results on a hillside coverage attempt. Thanks

For early spring display, poppy seeds are usually scattered in the fall. Then winter rains help them germinate and grow in the spring. You can broadcast your seeds now. The plants will grow but they may not flower since it will be late in the spring when they germinate. But they will bloom for you next spring. I mix my seeds with sand and then broadcast them. The sand helps separate the seeds and you can see where you've tossed the seeds. Enjoy your colorful landscape!
