Is it normal for a rosebush to have black thorns? Only half the bush has black thorns, the rest are brown.

Sometimes the thorns will turn black with age. As long as the plant is otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. There are no diseases associated with the thorns turning from brown to black.
