what do i need to do to prepare planting site for tree,the 1 i planted previously died and want to use same spot

Palms are particularly sensitive to poor drainage and excessively deep planting. Therefore, you should make the hole the depth of the root ball and about 6 inches wider. If the soil drains slowly or if the site has a high water table, provide subsurface drainage to carry away excess water by digging the hole deeper and wider and adding gravel to the bottom of the hole, topping with some soil, and then planting the palm so that the finished soil depth is the same as when the palm was growing in the container.
