I have some daffodil, tulip, lily and iris bulbs I never got into the ground last fall. Some are sprouting in the bucket where I stored them. Should I plant any of them now, if only in containers? |
I'm afraid the daffodils and tulips won't perform very well for you. They are planted in the ground in the fall where they spend 12-14 weeks developing roots before they sprout leaves and flowers. Yours may be sprouting but they do not have root systems and will not be able to support themselves even if you plant them now. I'd toss and replace them next fall. Your iris and lilies are summer bloomers and should grow and flower for you if you get them into the ground right now - or even into containers filled with potting soil. Best wishes with your new plants! |
