Amaranth has purplish flowers in a drooping cluster. The plant grows 3-5 feet tall and is coarse-looking. Celosia is also called cockscomb or Chinese woolflower. The plants have plumy flower clusters that look like tangled masses yarn. Flowers come in brilliant shades of pink, orange red, gold and crimson. The plant is tropical-looking and the dwarf varieties grow only 10 inches high, while the standard sized plants will grow 2 1/2 to 3 feet high. Both amaranth and celosia are members of the Amaranthus family, but look distinctly different!
