last year my husband added lime to the garden. what should I add to counteract it, since my tomatoes would not grow (dry, hollow fruit)? we have clay soil here. Thanks.

Dig in some compost or aged manure. Both will help neutralize the soil. Or have the soil tested so you know the pH. If it is very alkaline from the lime, you can apply elemental sulfur. It's best to know the pH before you start adding minerals to change it, though, so without a pH reading I would just add organic matter such as manure or compost. Best wishes with your garden!
