When new plants are brought home they can go through a little environmental shock because growing conditions in your home are usually different than growing conditions in the greenhouse or nursery. Light levels, humidity, and temperature can be different enough to shock new plants. Drafts from heating and air conditioning ducts can stress a new plant, as can too much or too little water. If the Croton was a healthy specimen when you brought it home, it will replace the lost leaves as soon as it adjusts to its new environment. In the meantime, keep it out of drafts, provide bright light but not direct sunshine, and water when the top of the soil dries out. I hope it recovers soon!
