|I just made a new flower bed. It is shaded by the garage from morning to noon and receives sun from noon to sunset. The average temperature in Houston is 90 in summer. Can you give me a list of cutting flowers suitable for this site?|
|There are many cutting flowers which will grow in your area. Zinnias are good summer annuals although you have to keep an eye out for powdery mildew and leaf spot on some varieties. The Oklahoma series of zinnia is especially great for cut flowers. Sunflowers would be another choice for summer. This fall, try sweet peas and delphiniums for spring flowers.
Perennial flowers include coneflower, shasta daisy and yarrow. And, when looking for cut flowers don't forget some of the great shrub selections for around the yard. Roses and buddleia are two of the many good choices for Houston.
