can a old bird of paradise plant be thinned, or reduced in size, and how?

You can dig and divide an overgrown bird of paradise. Dig down with a sharp shovel and separate out the plant sections you want to remove. This just takes a little time but is very doable. Some people find that they can use a butcher knife to cut down and separate plant sections to remove them from the clump. I prefer to use a pruning saw. Either way will work. Thanks for the question.
