I planted hostas last spring, but insects started eating the plants as they grew. I tried insects sprays but too much of it caused the leaves to turn brown. I heard of but can't remember a safe home remedy that might help. Any Suggestions?

Hostas are magnets for slugs and snails and I'll bet that's what has been chewing on the leaves. Try using one of the iron based slug and snail baits such as Sluggo. You sprinkle it on the ground rather than spray the plants. Your plants will remain nice and green and the slugs and snails will go away. Give it a try!
