Purchased this plant 2 years ago. Very healthy producing new growth which is not curly but straight. Have cut them off as I want curvy branches. What is going on with this shrub?

Check to see where the branches are coming from. Sometimes the curly part of the shrub is grafted onto a vigorous root stock. The straight branches could be coming from below the graft. If so, you are wise in cutting them off at the base before they overtake the grafted top. The grafted area will produce new branches, just at a slower growth rate than the more vigorous root stock. Just be patient with your shrub.
