i planted a ginko tree last spring and i thought it may have died last fall. however, i did get little leaves on the tree this spring. the leaves on the tree last year and this year are very small about only 1 inch in size. it seemed like they never reach there peek size. and the tree hasn't gotten any bigger. what can i do to keep the ginko tree alive? and what kind of fertilizers do you like. |
It can take a landscape tree a year or two to become established in the landscape so slow or poor growth isn't all that unusual. Be sure to water deeply once each week during the growing season. I build a water basin beneath my trees by mounding up a few inches of soil in a circle all around the tree, about 12" out from the trunk. Fill the basin with water, allow to drain, then fill it a second time. This concentrates the water over the root mass and allows it to trickle down, wetting the entire root zone. Water once each week in this manner and you will see a difference in the growth of your ginkgo. You can feed with an 8-8-8 or 10-10-10 fertilizer in amounts as listed on the label for the size and age of your tree. Good luck with your tree! |
