My daffodils are done blooming now. I know I need to leave the leaves until they turn brown, but would it help the plant store more energy in the bulb for next year if I cut off the spent flower heads that are beginning to develop a seed pod? That way the plant does not need to waste energy making seeds.

Your intuition is right on target! Cut the spent flowers and stems back and leave the foliage until it withers and dies, then cut the remnants off close to the soil level.
