I was given a gardenia in a 6" pot. I transplanted it to a much larger pot but now need to know how to care for and fertilize it.

Gardenias love a soil mix high in organic matter content and an acidic pH (about 5.5-6.0). Fertilize periodically (monthly to every 6 weeks) with an acidic fertilizer such as azalea/camelea food or a liquid fertilizer like Miracid. Cottonseed meal is another option. Keep evenly watered. Give it a part sun location. Half day morning sun is best, especially for a container plant.

Your plant would love to grow in a landscape bed with the above soil conditions, but acid soil is hard to come by in San Antonio!
