Pruning Knock Out Roses - Knowledgebase Question

Last summer I planted 2 Double Knock Out Roses. The bloomed nicely all summer. This spring they look very gangly and mishaped. They have leaves on them. Can I shape them now without harming them? Also, what type of fertilizer is best to use on them?

Thank you,
Linda Stapleton

You can prune your Knock Out roses now without harming them. As a matter of fact they can be pruned at any time of year. I usually cut mine back in the spring and they grow nicely all summer long. You can feed your roses with a general purpose garden fertilizer - a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 would be just fine. enjoy your roses!
