I want to do a raised garden for flowers...shady area. I have tried to put some plants in but have problems with rocks/walls already there. Have put mulch around plants that have made it. Shud I take the mulch out, put down newspaper, good farm soil, then plants and mulch? I'm in New England. |
The soil in a raised bed should be fast draining so yes, top soil mixed with compost or other organic matter will make a nice environment for your flowers. After planting, mulch over the bare soil to help slow evaporation and keep the bed nice and moist. I think you will see a big difference in your plants once you fix the soil. Enjoy your garden! |
