You can grow artichokes in Scottsdale but they are usually planted in February and ripen in June before hot weather sets it. I've grown them in Mesa and find that the foliage really wilts and then dies down by the end of June. So, plant them the first of the year and you can enjoy the chokes before the plants wilt in the heat.
