My Red Japanese Maple Tree 4' high - Knowledgebase Question

I planted about 6 years ago a red japanese maple tree in front of my step. It was doing beautifully until this spring I noticed there are dead branches on one side of the tree or bush with no red leaves coming out at all. This week the entire tree has leaves except one section. My neighbor and I believe maybe it is wind damage from the winter storms we had this winter. What can I do to help it?

If you maple has suffered from winter damage, the dead branches will not regenerate new leaves and should be pruned away from your tree. I'd prune it back now in the spring to encourage new stems and branches. Aside from pruning out the dead plant parts, there's not much else you need to do. Best wishes with your tree.
