My asparagus began coming in about one week ago. Many of the spears are very thin and these are opening and flowering very quickly. What is the cause and cure?

Young asparagus crowns send up thin stems that rapidly open into feathery leaves. It is the plants way of producing energy for the crowns. As the plants mature they will send up thicker stalks or spears which you can harvest. It takes a couple of years before an aspargus crown becomes mature enough to produce edible spears. In the meantime just allow the stems to develop foliage, knowing that the plants are getting stronger and will develop edible spears in the next few years.
