New dogwood trees can show signs of transplant stress by dropping their leaves. It might also be that your tree is getting more sunshine than it experienced in the nursery so some adjustment needs to be made by the tree before it performs well. The best thing for you to do is to carefully water your tree on a weekly basis, applying water slowly so it can percolate down into the soil and throughly wet the root mass. I think your tree will perk up once it becomes acclimated to its new growing site. Best wishes with your dogwood!
