What you are finding are aerial roots and they are common on ivy plants. Wait until your plant is well established and then either cut off the roots or cover them with additional soil. Your plant is vigorous and will be just fine, whether you cover the exposed roots or cut them off after the plant has grown lots more roots. Enjoy your ivy!
