I was thinking of getting my mother a couple of crepe myrtles for Mothers Day. The question is can they survive in zone 5 (Utah) and if so where can I find one.

Crape myrtle won't perform well in Utah, but you might consider Japanese tree lilac. This tree has been described as a common lilac with an attitude. Unlike the smaller, common lilacs, the Japanese tree lilac grows to 25 feet tall and has a single trunk with a vase-shaped growing habit. This tree blooms later than the common lilac, and its white flowers are not as fragrant, but it still a spectacular landscape tree.
