|How often do i need to areate the yard to dethatch it properly? I have some bermuda grass in it. How do I grow grass on the side of a bank? I have 2 crape myrtles and they are greening near the roots, not the top. Is the top part dead?|
|Depending upon your soil type and how much traffic the lawn receives, you may want to aerate every 3-4 years. A core aerator will remove one inch by three inch plugs from the lawn. Leave the plugs on the lawn and they will dissolve in rain or water from the sprinklers. After aerating spread a thin layer of sand or compost over the area and water it in well. The sand or compost plus the soil from the plugs will work their way down into the holes left by the plugs. You can then overseed your entire lawn.
Grass will grow on a slope but you need to be careful in watering, applying water for about 10 minutes, waiting about 15 minutes until it soaks in and then watering again.
If your crape myrtles are not showing any new growth at the tops but green at the bottom near the soil, the tops are dead and can be cut away to make room for the new growth.
