Your weed control options are mechanical, biological and chemical, depending on weed species and the size of the pond. Some weeds can be kept in bounds by skimming or dragging them out periodically. Some are eaten by certain fish species like grass carp. Introducing these fish is a biological control option. Others, such as cattails may require chemical controls. Algae proliferate when nitrogen levels are too high. Fertilizer runoff can cause this.

Your County Extension Agent (904-387-8850) can assist you in selecting the best weed control options, including if needed, a herbicide labeled for fish ponds. I commend you for investigating your options before acting. You can really get alot of enjoyment out of a well managed fish pond!
