A pesty groundhog that visits our backyard insists on eating my newly planted perennials and annuals. Pansies, black eyed susans, dwarf burning bush, early mums, forget me nots, you name it he eats it. Any suggestions how I can deter this pesty beast until my plants are more established--if not forever! They will greatly appreciate it, so will I!

To be honest, there are home remedy deterrents such as hot pepper flakes and so on, but the only definitive answer is to remove the animal. They can be trapped with a live trap and relocated, depending on local ordinances and restrictions. You might wish to call in a professional because groundhogs can be very dangerous, in addition to doing a lot of damage to your garden.
