There are many plants that will grow in the shade in your Florida location. In fact, too many to mention! There are tall plants, short plants, foliage and flowers, ground covers, shrubs, etc. Let me suggest two references to guide you through a pictorial selection process:

Florida, My Eden by Frederic Stresau (available from Arborist Supply House Inc.; P.O.Box 23607; Fort Lauderdale, FL 33307; (305)561-9527).

Perennial Garden Color for the South by William Welch
(available through your local bookstore)

I would also suggest you make notes of plants you see in neighbor's yards that you would want to plant, and visit a local botanical garden or arboretum to see which plants appeal to you. Your County Extension office may also have a list of shade loving plants for your area.
