|I have a study pergola built across the front of my garage. There is a french drain at the end so the soil/gravel bed is very wet well it rains. What fast growing, flowering vine/rose/perrenial will thrive in this environment? The pergola is on the north side of the garage but well protected by evergreen treeline in winter. I don't want a messy planting because there are pavers below.|
|I can't think of a single vine to plant in the area you describe but there are several shrub that like wet feet:
Andromeda (Bog Rosemary), Cornus stolonifera (Shrub Dogwood), Chaenomoles (Flowering Quince), Potentilla fructicosa (Potentilla), Chionanthus (Fringe Tree), Sambucus canadensis (American Elderberry), Clethra (Summersweet), Viburnum opulus (Snowball Bush). Or perennials: Acorus gramineus (Japanese Sweet Flag), Iris ensata (Japanese Iris), Caltha palustris (Marsh Marigold), Iris laevigata (Water Iris), Iris Louisiana (Louisiana Iris), Iris pseudacorus (Yellow Flag,) Carex elata ?Aurea? (Bowles Golden Sedge), Iris versicolor (Blue Flag), Juncus (Common Rush) Typha (Cattail), Cyperus alternifolius (Umbrella Plant).
