I have moss starting to grow on a twenty year old red maple. Should I be concerned? Will the moss damage the tree? If so, what should I do to protect it?

During a particularly "wet" season, moss can appear in spots where we don't usually notice it. (Mosses grow from spores which can remain dormant for a long time until conditions are favorable for them to thrive.) If the tree is healthy otherwise, I wouldn't worry about the moss.
