Newly plants trees and shrubs naturally go through an adjustment period, which can include dying foliage. As soon as the roots establish themselves, your dogwood should recover. The weather added insult to injury, but we can't help the weather! I think you are overwatering. When soil remains soggy it can suffocate roots. So don't water every night. Instead, water deeply once each week to encourage deep roots and to allow the soil to dry out a bit between waterings. Good luck with your new tree.
