Some of the most popular annuals do beautifully in direct sun. Marigolds, zinnias, petunias, cosmos, cleome (spider flower), sunflower, salvia and snapdragons are all worth a try. Remember that plants in full sun will need to be watered, when nature doesn't provide. Also, a rich soil and thick mulch will help conserve moisture.
